With sporty styling and handling, the 2024 Chevy Blazer keeps its Equinox sibling on the sidelines.
What kind of car is the 2024 Chevy Blazer? What does it compare to?
The 2024 Blazer has sharp styling that almost, but not quite, evokes vintage Chevy SUV design. It stands out amongst its smoother, sleeker contemporaries like the Honda Passport, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Ford Edge.
Is the 2024 Chevy Blazer a good car?
It’s a solid choice. With good standard tech features, a range of trim levels, and the ability to out-handle most competitors, it earns a TCC Rating of 6.3 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What’s new for the 2024 Chevy Blazer?
Heated seats now come standard across the lineup, and Riptide Blue Metallic adds some waves to the exterior color palette.
The Blazer’s striking design starts up front, with LED headlights and running lights placed to give the illusion of a wider, lower stance than rivals. This theme carries over to the cockpit, where it takes on an aviation-inspired look with a 10.0-inch central touchscreen display and circular vents.
The base 2.0-liter turbo-4 pairs with front-wheel drive and a indecisive 9-speed automatic transmission. This Blazer delivers 228 hp with reasonable hustle in most situations, and offers more athletic handling and ride than most competitors. Step up to the Blazer RS, which gets a 308-hp V-6 and even better handling thanks to a twin-clutch torque-vectoring system.
While the slightly smaller Chevrolet Equinox encroaches on the Blazer’s five-passenger crossover territory, the Blazer offers more space and somewhat better quality, with the exception of the seats. Up front, the bottom cushions are short and narrow, which is less noticeable but still an issue in the rear row. There’s plenty of space in both rows, thanks to the sliding rear bench, but more padding would go a long way. The Blazer offers maximum cargo space of more than 64 cubic feet.
The Blazer fares well in crash-test evaluations and comes standard with LED headlights, active lane control, and automatic emergency braking. Adaptive cruise control is available on every trim.
How much does the 2024 Chevy Blazer cost?
It starts at $38,190, including a destination and handling charge of $1,395. That’s for the Blazer 2LT with the turbo-4 engine, front-wheel drive, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, newly standard heated front seats, a 10.0-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and 18-inch wheels. All-wheel drive adds $2,700 on LT models and $2,900 on RS and Premier models.
With all-wheel drive and the V-6 engine, Blazer RS and Premier models push $50,000, but include features like a Bose stereo and larger wheels.
Where is the 2024 Chevy Blazer made?
Tennessee, at GM’s Spring Hill production facility.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer Styling
The Blazer’s distinctive front and rear ends are its best visual assets.
Is the Chevy Blazer a good-looking car?
A great lighting design gives the Blazer an almost sporty look, and it’s the most visually appealing Chevy aside from the sports cars. The fit body and upscale interior each add a point here, for a 7.
Slim LED running lights highlight the Chevy bowtie up front, and a wide honeycomb grille results in a visually low center of gravity. Thin and narrow LED headlights mirror the thinner taillights out back. The blacked-out roof tops off with a sporty roof spoiler.
The 10.0-inch touchscreen dominates the cabin, flanked by distinctive circular vents, and a small row of climate controls offers easy access to common functions.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer Performance
Sharp steering and a tight ride give the Blazer an edge over the competition.
With great steering and road feedback plus a choice of potent powertrains, the Blazer’s a 7 here. The V-6 tempts, but the turbo-4 will suit most shoppers’ needs.
How fast is the Chevrolet Blazer?
The Blazer’s hefty at about 4,000 pounds, but the 2.0-liter turbo-4 is more than capable, with 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Power builds quickly, though the 9-speed automatic transmission sometimes thinks it knows better than the driver. Under firm throttle, base front-wheel-drive models can hit 60 mph in less than eight seconds; the RS V-6, with 308 hp and 270 lb-ft, can almost hit six seconds and adds a raspy exhaust note, to boot. It’s impressive for the class, and available on 3LT and Premier trims as well, but not necessarily worth the extra $8,000 or so.
Is the Chevrolet Blazer 4WD?
It’s standard in front-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive is available. The turbo-4 pairs with a basic system that kicks in when front wheel slip is detected, while V-6 RS Blazers get a torque-vectoring system that uses a twin-clutch rear differential for better grip and handling.
The Blazer RS also gets a sport mode with heftier steering tuning and revised shifts, and RS and Premier models get a stiffer suspension system that improves ride quality and handling. That said, all Blazer configurations have impressive and precise steering.
Turbo-4 models can tow up to 3,500 pounds, and V-6 models top out at 4,500 pounds.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer Comfort & Quality
The Blazer’s seats fail to impress.
The Blazer fits five passengers and their cargo, and earns a point here for its spaciousness, but the flat, narrow seats in both rows are a weak spot. That’s a 6 here.
Base versions get front buckets fitted with cloth upholstery, but they’re narrow, need more padding, and aren’t comfortable for long trips, particularly for larger frames. On the upside, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and heated front seats come standard.
In RS and Premier trims, options include perforated leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and cooled seats.
The second row slides and features a 60/40 split to maximize passenger or cargo space. There’s almost 40 inches of legroom and plenty of headroom, but again, these seats need better padding, and it’s a tight squeeze to fit a middle passenger on the bench.
Cargo capacity starts at 30.5 cubic feet and can expand to 64.2 cubes with the rear row folded. The cargo area features several storage cubbies in tucked-away spots.
Black trim and chrome-like finish combine for a GMC Denali-esque air to the cabin, making the Blazer look and feel upscale than the more budget-oriented Chevrolet Equinox. Good active noise cancellation contributes to the premium effect.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer Safety
With strong crash-test scores and standard tech, the Blazer is a decent pick for safety.
How safe is the Chevy Blazer?
The Blazer fares “Good” in the IIHS’ six crash tests, and earns five stars overall from the NHTSA despite four stars in rollover evaluations. The NHTSA rating and the inclusion of automatic emergency braking each earn a point, for a 7.
Other standard fare includes active lane control, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitors, and rear parking sensors. Chevy offers a rear camera mirror and a surround-view camera system that both help alleviate poor outward visibility due to the Blazer’s stout rear pillars. All trims are available with adaptive cruise control.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer Features
A large touchscreen helps make base Blazers a decent value.
With good standard equipment, a large touchscreen, and competitive value for entry-level models, the 2024 Blazer is an 8 for features.
Which Chevrolet Blazer should I buy?
The base Blazer 2LT, at $38,190, is arguably the best deal in the lineup, with the robust turbo-4 engine, a 10.0-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plenty of driver-assist tech, keyless start, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and newly standard heated front seats. We’d consider spending $2,700 more for all-wheel drive. Options like adaptive cruise control and wireless smartphone charging may also be worth adding, but we’d steer clear of the subscription-based navigation and wifi plans if your smartphone can handle those chores.
How much is a fully loaded Chevrolet Blazer?
While Blazer RS and Blazer Premier trims both cost $45,490, they’re a little different. The Premier adds Bose audio and more posh fittings, while the RS comes standard with the V-6 engine and adds a sunroof, a hands-free tailgate, wireless smartphone charging, and 21-inch wheels. It’s $2,900 to add all-wheel drive on both.
2024 Chevrolet Blazer Fuel Economy
Fuel economy is average at best for the 2024 Blazer.
Is the Chevrolet Blazer good on gas?
It’s average for the class. The 2024 Blazer rates a 3 here based on the turbo-4’s EPA rating of 22 mpg city, 29 highway, 25 combined with front-wheel drive and 22/27/24 mpg with all-wheel drive.
The EPA revised ratings slightly downward for the 2024 Blazer V-6, coming in at 19/26/22 mpg with front-wheel drive and 18/26/21 mpg with all-wheel drive.
