Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny, General Manager of the International Tourism Offices, Egypt engages in a candid conversation with the Anup Kumar Keshan, CEO and Founder Editor of Travel And Tour World at Riyadh Travel Fair 2024, held at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Readers are enlightened about the plans of the tourism office to uphold Egypt as a booming destination to travel.

Travel And Tour World: What opportunities are you looking for at Riyadh Travel Fair?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: Well Saudi Arabia is a big market and one of the biggest markets for Egypt looking to expand as much as we can and to introduce what is new our destination like North Coast and Sharm El-Sheikh. We have direct flights now connecting Saudi Arabia with the rich area.

Travel And Tour World: How important is the GCC market for you?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: Saudi Arabia is already the 3rd largest resource market for Egypt we have already exceeded 1 million visitors last year and we are expecting more this year. Saudi Arabia is our top source market and then comes the UAE.

Travel And Tour World: Which other international markets are you targeting other than Saudi?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: We have a list of 12 major markets around and the odd ones are Germany, France UK, Italy and still Russia is one of the top two. Meanwhile we are focusing on India and China markets.

Travel And Tour World: What is your next phase of marketing plan? From which area you want to call people to visit Egypt? What are your new initiatives and new destinations for Egypt?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: We have 12 major source markets and we are still expanding the list to have more than 30 in total. We are focusing on the north and East Europe, for long-haul is Brazil and USA. What we are tilling about is the North Coast destinations like the Al Amein as summer destination. Meanwhile we are trying to uphold Al Amein to be all year round destination, as well as the long Nile cruises and Cairo City Break. We have more things to visit in Cairo.

Travel And Tour World: What about the MICE market?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: We are doing very well with the MICE market. Egypt is now hosting a lot of events, conferences and there are list of tourism and antiquities already open new areas like thimble area and citadel to host such events. Means we are booming up in this area of tourism. We can say at least one of our target segments and we are focusing on it in the near future.

Travel And Tour World: Egypt is regarded as an ancient tourism destination due to its pyramids and other offerings of its cultural heritage. Mostly people go for leisure activity. What about business travel or leisure travel?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: We have one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Our USP is cultural heritage we are one of the well kept thousands of historical facts and remains. It is a dream for all humans to visit the pyramids. We also have lot of things to focus on, destinations to start marketing for. The leisure tourism is 65% of total room’s capacity on the seaside of Egypt. Not only booming worldwide but we focus more on our heritage sites also.

Travel And Tour World: Usually people are fascinated by the Nile Cruise. What are your plans to promote that?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: As I have already mentioned it is a dream for everyone to visit the heritage sites across Egypt and the Nile Cruise is one of the best. In all our media coverage and advertising we focus on Nile cruise.

Travel And Tour World: What are your expectations from Riyadh Travel Fair?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: We are doing well right from the beginning of the fair and we see that visitors are interested to know about North Coast Sharm El Sheikh direct flights. I believe it is booming up.

Travel And Tour World: What are new connectivity from Riyadh to Egypt?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: Plan is to attract more traffic to the North Coast area and Sharm El Sheikh.

Travel And Tour World: New connection you are launching?

Dr. Mohammad Al Sherbeiny: It is already announced by many airline carriers. We are doing our best to announce more.
