Palmer: Supporting three-lane shifted for Castle Creek Bridge

Answering Tom Mooney’s letter in the Aspen Daily News, May 24,

Those who prefer the three-lane-shifted alternative and rebuilding the Castle Creek Bridge in its current location are not NIMBYS, but concerned citizens. This plan will give Aspen a long lived entry and exit and will cost less and will not destroy the neighborhood between Main and Seventh streets or the current open space. A good point is that during construction two lanes will always be open.

You say of the visual effects during construction on the bridge “that is not appropriate for Aspen.”

Do you think the construction of a highway and tunnel across the Marolt will just suddenly appear without noise and infrastructure? Maybe you do not know what is truly appropriate for Aspen.
