Reading Time: < 1 minuteAir India has declared the introduction of direct flights between Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru and London Gatwick Airport, set to commence on August 18. This launch positions Bengaluru as the fifth Indian city linked directly to the UK’s second largest airport, enhancing Air India’s operational footprint in the United Kingdom.
This new route is expected to strengthen the already robust economic and cultural connections between the two nations. The airline will operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for this service, which includes 18 flat beds in Business Class and 238 seats in Economy Class.
Currently, Air India serves London Gatwick from four other Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Goa, and Kochi. The airline also maintains significant operations to London Heathrow, with 31 weekly flights, and to Birmingham, with six weekly flights.
Air India, a pioneer in Indian aviation, was established by JRD Tata. Since its inaugural flight on October 15, 1932, the airline has been at the forefront of developing an extensive network both within India and internationally, including destinations across the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, and the Gulf. In 2022, after nearly seven decades as a state-owned enterprise, Air India and its subsidiary, Air India Express, were reincorporated into the Tata group.
