The Aspen Fringe Festival is returning to the Wheeler Opera House for its 16th JUNEFEST on Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, with the first night dedicated to dance and the second to theater. Founded in 1994 by David Ledingham, the Aspen Fringe Festival aims to inspire and encourage artists and individuals around the world.

On Friday, June 7, Joshua Tree-based dance company Alchemy Arts Collective will perform live and onscreen in “Chasing the Light” with choreography by Adriana Thompson. The film is directed by Jaco Strydom.

“Chasing the Light” combines two mediums: a live dance performance and its adaptation into a film within the awe-inspiring backdrop of Joshua Tree, providing a unique angle on dance as it is integrated into the natural environment that initially inspired the project.

Friday will also see the world premiere of “Finally It’s Everything,” a dance performance by choreographer Jon Ole Olestad Featuring Dancer Leslie Plummer.

Saturday will feature the American workshop premiere of “Lyonesse” by Penelope Skinner. The play opened in London, in October 2023 and follows the story of a once-famous actress who disappeared 30 years ago in mysterious circumstances, who is ready to tell her story. She summons Kate, a young film executive, to her remote home on the coast of Maine to assist with her glorious comeback. But to keep control of the story, the women must fight against a rising tide.
