There’s a scene in 1997’s Bad Boys in which a young Will Smith, sporting a silky black shirt unbuttoned to reveal his lean muscled torso, sprints after a carful of criminals in stupendous Michael Bay slow motion. “I JUST MADE YOU A FUCKING MOVIE STAR!” Bay reportedly screamed at Smith after calling cut. He really did: That one shot and outfit—skimpy as it might’ve been—went a long way in shifting Smith’s public perception from goofy rapper and sitcom actor to genuine matinee idol.

Nearly 30 years and three sequels later, Smith is back as Detective Mike Lowery in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which hits theaters tomorrow. And while the 55-year-old actor probably isn’t as eager to flash his abs on screen these days, there’s still plenty of sartorial goodness to be found in this latest installment. Case in point: Smith’s slick calfskin trucker jacket from the bespoke leather atelier Savas.

As one might expect of a label based in Nashville, Savas has deep ties to the music world—its exquisitely supple, inimitably badass outerwear has shown up on the backs of everyone from Jason Isbell and Jack White to Lucinda Williams and Reba McEntire. The piece Smith sports in Ride or Die, sourced by the film’s costume designer Janie Bryant, was fashioned in tribute to the all-leather kit from Elvis’s iconic ’68 comeback special. It’s cut from a heavyweight pebbled calf leather with hardy brass snap closures.

As we’ve advised before, if you’ve never really been a leather jacket guy, there’s no better way to dip your toes in the water than with a classic trucker silhouette—it’s as versatile and familiar as it gets. Now, Will Smith wearing one as arguably his most beloved and stylish character makes it even more desirable a proposition. And lucky for you, Savas has the exact model worn in the film up for grabs right now. At $3,800, it’s an investment—but one well worth the price of admission, given we’re talking about an artfully crafted, American-made leather jacket that’ll last you damn near the rest of your life. Good enough for Mike Lowery, good enough for you.
