Norwegian Group’s Summer Programme Hits New Heights With 2.5 Million Passengers

In May, Norwegian carried 2,138,484 passengers, while Widerøe transported 333,492, bringing the total to 2,472,976 for the group. Norwegian’s capacity increased by 19 percent compared to the previous May, although the load factor decreased by 2 percentage points to 82 percent. The airline utilized an average of 84 aircraft during this period, gearing up for its summer schedule. Additionally, Norwegian saw a 12 percent rise in passenger numbers compared to last year.

“I’m satisfied with the passenger numbers in May. About 650,000 of our passengers travelled to southern Europe destinations in May. The average flying distance increased 7 percent, demonstrating our significant capacity growth to beach destinations. Our capacity has been significantly increased overall for the summer season, and we look forward to welcoming even more passengers through the busy summer holidays,” said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.

The capacity (ASK) was 3,466 million seat kilometers, a 19 percent increase from last May. Passenger traffic (RPK) reached 2,843 seat kilometers, up 16 percent from May 2023. Norwegian maintained a regularity rate of 99.5 percent, reflecting the proportion of scheduled flights executed. Punctuality, defined as flights departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, improved by 1.2 percentage points to 86.1 percent compared to last May.

Widerøe also reported strong performance

In May, Widerøe showed consistent capacity with the previous months and identical to last year, but experienced over a 10 percent increase in passenger numbers.

“I am very pleased to see Widerøe continuing to deliver good results. The load factor increased an impressive 7 percent, with the majority of the improvement coming on the commercial network. I want to thank the Widerøe team for the great work they are doing”, said Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian.

For Widerøe, the capacity (ASK) in May was steady at 179 million seat kilometers. Passenger traffic (RPK) increased to 124 million seat kilometers, marking a 10 percent rise from last May. The load factor concluded at 69.4 percent.
