First responders continued their search for Thomas Russell, 61, after a rafting accident June 1. The accident occurred in the Yarmony Rapid area of the Colorado River. A 56-year-old Aurora man, Brent Boulter, died in the accident.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office stated that personnel searched for Russell on Monday and conducted witness interviews. They also searched an area of the Yarmony Rapid on both Tuesday and Wednesday that had been identified by witnesses. They utilized unmanned aerial systems during the searches on these days.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Thomas Russell was not located during either of these operations and the case remains active and open,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Russell was last seen wearing a blue fishing shirt and khaki shorts and was reported to not be wearing a personal flotation device, according to the sheriff’s office. A third individual in the raft made it to safety.
The sheriff’s office is asking for anyone recreating in the Radium/Rancho Del Rio area to remain vigilant and report any sightings or further information by calling or texting 911. The sheriff’s non-emergency dispatch number is 970-725-3311.
