When a young boy suffered lifelong injuries after being mauled by a vicious XL bully dog while playing on a green with friends in Wexford in November 2022, then taoiseach Micheál Martin said it was “one child too many”.
The Government vowed at the time to review dog-control legislation and a working group was established to examine enforcement, the restricted breed list and how dog wardens are deployed.
