To commemorate National Oceans Month, Oceana unveiled a fresh public service announcement (PSA) today, featuring esteemed American actor and environmental champion, Dennis Haysbert. This PSA encourages viewers to become part of Oceana’s expanding community of ocean advocates who are actively contributing to global change.

Haysbert’s narration highlights the impact individuals can have on the health of the oceans. “The tide isn’t just a gentle ebb and flow. It’s a mighty force of change,” he reads. “Just like the tide shapes our shorelines, we can shape our planet’s future and protect the world’s oceans from its biggest threats.”

“Like many of us, I am worried about the many threats facing our oceans,” says Haysbert. “From climate change and plastic pollution, to overfishing and habitat destruction, the need for action has never been more urgent. Teaming up with organizations like Oceana gives me hope. We know that the oceans are resilient. With everyone’s support and awareness, we can help them recover.”

A committed advocate for Oceana, Haysbert has been actively involved in various initiatives, including speaking at the organization’s SeaChange Summer Party in Orange County, California, and providing his distinctive voice for promotional videos. Oceana pushes for scientific policies in critical coastal nations aiming to revitalize our rich and diverse oceans. Boasting over 300 successful campaigns, Oceana has a proven track record of impactful outcomes.

The PSA will start broadcasting this month on the Curiosity Channel, a network under Curiosity Stream that offers a selection of premium documentary content, among other media outlets.

As the foremost global advocacy group exclusively focused on ocean preservation, Oceana is committed to enhancing the health of our oceans by securing science-based policies in nations that govern a significant portion of the global wild fish catch. With numerous successes in halting overfishing, preventing habitat destruction, and protecting against pollution from oil and plastics, as well as saving endangered species like turtles, whales, and sharks, Oceana’s efforts are making a measurable difference.
