Eid al Adha 2024 Moon Sighting Live Update: The first day of Eid al Adha will be on Sunday June 16, 2024 whereas Youm e Arafat or Arafat Day, will be on Saturday June 15, 2024, the Saudi Royal Court officially confirmed.
"The Crescent Moon is sighted today. Hence, Friday June 07, 2024 marks the start of the holy month of Dhul Hijjah 1445 H. And, Eid al Adha celebrated on 10th of Dhul Hijjah will be on Sunday June 16, 2024", the Saudi Royal Court said.
"Youm e Arafat or Youm ul Hajj, which coincides with 9th of Dhul Hijjah, will be on Saturday June 15, 2024", it added.
Youm e Arafat of Arafat Day is the key ritual of Hajj when hundreds of thousands of Muslims stand on the Plains of Mount Arafat near Makkah.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Palestine, Bahrain, Jordan normally rely on the moon announcement by Saudi Arabia. Hence Eid al Adha 2024 in these countries will also be celebrated on Sunday June 16, 2024.
Muslims in part of UK and North America also normally celebrate Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha with their Muslim counterparts in the Arab countries.
On the other hand, Muslims in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other South Asia countries will confirm the first day of Eid al Adha tomorrow i.e. Friday June 07, 2024.
22:10 PM: The Dhul Hijjah Moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, accordingly Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Sunday, 16 June 2024.
"The Crescent for the month of Dhul Hijjah 1445 was SEEN today subsequently the month of Dhul Hijjah 1445 will begin tomorrow i.e Friday, 7 June 2024", Haramain admin said.
"Accordingly, Hajj Day (Arafat) will be on Saturday, 15 June 2024 whereas Eid Al Adha will be celebrated on Sunday, 16 June 2024", it added.
21:50 PM: "The (Eid al Adha) Moon has NOT been sighted as of yet in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia", Haramain admin said.
"The Official Announcement is due to follow shortly", it added.
21:40 PM: The Dhul Hijjah Moon is not sighted in Sudair observatory of Saudi Arabia whereas reports from other observatories are awaited.
"The sun has set in all observatories in the Kingdom, with no reports of sightings of the crescent", reports from Haramain said.
"A statement will be issued by the Royal Court shortly", it added.
21:30 PM: The Saudi Royal Court is set to announce shortly the exact date and time of Eid al Adha 2024 celebration in Saudi Arabia and the Hajj 2024 date.
"Dhul Hijjah 1445/2024 Crescent search this evening", a statement released by the Saudi observatories said.
Hajj is performed annually when hundreds of thousands of Muslims from around the world throng Makkah and the Holy Sites in Saudi Arabia.
While the key ritual of Hajj is on 9th of Dhul Hijjah, Eid al Fitr is celebrated on 10th of the holy month.
“So far 1.2 million pilgrims have arrived to perform Hajj", the Saudi Haj Ministry said Thursday.

Moon sighting committees and religious authorities in the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine and other Arab countries are also gearing up to sight the Eid al Adha Moon Thursday.
The official confirmation regarding the moon sighting is likely by 06:30 PM Makkah Time.
04:00 AM: The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia and the Moon Sighting Committees in United Arab Emirate (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine and other Arab states have appealed Muslims to spot the new moon of the Holy month of Dhul Hijjah today i.e. Thursday 29th of Dhu al-Qadah 1445 AH, corresponding to June 06, 2024, to confirm the date and time of Eid al Adha 2024, and Hajj 2024 and Arafat Day.
"The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has called upon residents of the Kingdom to search for the crescent of the month of Dhul Hijjah 1445 H on the evening of Thursday, 29 Dhul Qadah 1445 H, corresponding to June 06, 2024 and report to any sightings", the Saudi Royal Court said in a statement.
Special arrangements have been made and general appeals have also been issued by the authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE - mainly Abu Dhabi and Dubai), Qatar, Iraq and other Gulf states including Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Muscat, Oman, Yemen, Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and Palestine to sight the Eid al Adha Moon today on Thursday 29th Dhul Qadah 1445H of the Islamic Calendar which corresponds to 6th of June 2024.
The Saudi Supreme Court’s special session will meet and analyse today on Thursday evening the results of the Eid ul Azha Crescent search and will issue a decision shortly after Maghreb Prayers.
The Kingdom’s main observations are made from Sudair and Tumair and sightings from these cities are part of the official decision.
Eid al Adha (also known as Bakra Eid, Eid uz Zuha in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and around), is celebrated across the world on 10th of Dhul Hijjah - the month revered as one of the holiest months is Islamic calendar.
Traditionally, the Eid al Adha festival lasts for four days but public holidays vary from country to country.
Accordingly, Youm e Arafat 2024 (Youme Arafah or Hajj Day), which falls on 9th of Dhul Hijjah, will be either on Saturday June 15 or Sunday June 16, 2024.
Youm e Arafat (Youme Arafah) is 9th day of Dhul Hijjah when millions of Muslims from across the world gather on the plains of Mount Arafat to perform Hajj. As per the Saudi Haj and Umrah Ministry, around 2.5 million Muslims from around the world will perform Hajj this year.
The Saudi government has made unprecedented arrangement to make Hajj journey of the pilgrims hassle-free. The Kingdom has also deployed online services to make Hajj tour of the pilgrims a journey of lifetime.
Hajj and Eid al Adha (also known as Bakra Eid, Eid ul Azha and Eid uz Zuha in the Indian subcontinent) are celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices made by Prophet Ibrahim, his noble wife Hager and their son Prophet Ismael (peace be upon all of them).
In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other South Asian countries the Moon Sighting Committees, Hilal Committees and Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Friday June 07, 2024 or Saturday June 08, 2024 as per the date of Islamic Calendar in these countries to decide on the sighting of the Dhul Hajjah Moon.
Similarly, Muslims in the United States (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, France, Germany and other countries too will celebrate Eid al Adha either on Thursday June 06 or Friday June 07, 2024.
Decision on Muslim festivals Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha is based on lunar system. As per this system, the first day of a new month is decided if moon is sighted on 29th day of the preceding month. In case the moon is not sighted, the month is counted for whole of 30 days.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine and other Arab countries have already announced Eid al Adha holidays.
According to the UAE’s approved holiday calendar, Eid Al Adha holiday will be four days starting from June 14 to June 19, 2024 that could be extended till June 20, 2024 if the cabinet approves, local media reported.
