Minnesota teen will die after scooter accident

Maxwell Robert Wilson was 14 years old when his scooter collided with a vehicle Monday. A GoFundMe post says his injuries were so severe, he will not survive.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. — A Lakeville teen will reportedly not survive the injuries suffered in a scooter crash Monday but he will live on by donating organs to extend the lives of others.

Maxwell Robert Wilson, 14, was crossing 179th Street (County Road 9) around 3:15 p.m. in Lakeville when a vehicle traveling westbound struck the scooter. Lakeville police say there are stop signs for vehicles traveling north and south on Granby Lane, but no stop signs for east and westbound traffic on 179th Street.

Wilson was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) with critical injuries. A friend who started a GoFundMe account to help Max's family said the teen's brain injuries were so severe he will not survive.

On Wednesday afternoon at HCMC, there will be a "Hero Walk" for Max, whose organs will be donated.

"He is so full of life, happiness, and joy. If you were one lucky enough to know Max, you know he lights up every room he walks into," the GoFundMe post reads. "Max loves sports, his family, his dogs, his friends and adventures."

The GoFundMe account was established to help the Wilsons with medical bills and Max's after-life care. As of Wednesday at 7 a.m., organizers had raised $55,000 of a $75,000 goal.
