A driver died in a fiery crash in Boston Wednesday morning, according to officials who say the motorist smashed into the barrier of the Mass Ave. Connector before plummeting about 40 feet onto the I-93 exit ramp.
The motorist reportedly drove into the barrier at a high rate of speed, sparking a fire as the vehicle soared over the barrier.
Boston Fire confirmed the fatal car accident and fire on I-93’s exit ramp 16.
“A vehicle crashed into the barrier of the Mass Ave Connector and fell approximately 40 feet onto the exit ramp below,” Boston Fire posted. “The @MassStatePolice is investigating.”
Many ramps in the area were closed due to the investigation, leading to traffic backups.
Boston Fire orders ‘mayday’ for trapped firefighter
A firefighter was temporarily trapped on a roof Wednesday afternoon, as Boston Fire issued a “mayday” before knocking down the 3-alarm blaze.
Boston Fire responded at around 2:45 p.m. to 258 Normandy St., near Franklin Park, for a report of heavy smoke and fire in the occupied 2 and 1/2 story building. The fire burned through the roof.
“A May Day was ordered for a member that was temporarily trapped on the roof, as the fire roared thru that roof in multiple locations,” Boston Fire posted. “The member was able to exit safety over the aerial ladder. This is now a 3rd alarm.”
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire.
