Police arrested a 17-year-old on murder and other charges in a shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy and left three others wounded Monday night in Prince William County, Va., saying in a news release that the attack stemmed from an ongoing dispute.

County police said the teen fired toward five people gathered on a grassy patch behind a row of townhouses in the region’s Triangle area.

Four people, ages 15 to 20, were struck in the attack at about 10:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of Masthead Trail. Police said in a news release that the victims knew the teen charged in the shooting, and detectives are working to identify anyone else who might have been involved.

The 15-year-old died at a hospital, Officer Renee Carr, a spokeswoman, said Tuesday; none of the other victims were gravely wounded. She said a 16-year-old suffered a grazing wound and two men, 18 and 20, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not release the arrested teen’s name because he is a juvenile. Police generally do not publicly identify victims who have not been killed, and Virginia law bars authorities from disclosing the names of juvenile victims even in homicide cases.
