Flood warning ssued for Routt County

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a flood warning for the Elk River near Milner from Friday through Sunday.

According to the NWS, warm temperatures will accelerate snow melt across the Elkhead and Park ranges through the weekend. This may increase flows on creeks and streams across the Upper Yampa River Basin. Daily forecast peaks are expected to exceed the NWS Action Stage, which may result in mitigation measures if necessary.

Areas that may be particularly impacted include Milner and County Roads 44 and 42.

Residents are asked to report flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement personnel.

Additional information is available at Weather.gove/gjt.

The Yampa River is not forecasted to reach the Action Stage throughout the forecast period, with minor flooding in Steamboat Springs in the flood zones. Please contact Steamboat Springs Streets Department if you need sandbags at 970-819-2291.

The Routt County Road & Bridge Department has been checking the culverts along County Road 44. Road signs have been staged at the intersection of CR 44 and US 40 to be immediately available if necessary. Additional equipment has been staged at CR 56 and 129 to assist with any debris that may collect on the bridge. All County bridges that cross the Elk River are being checked daily.
