Missing Avon resident Vicente Roblero was found dead in the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon and recovered by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, June 2.

Roblero, 39, was last seen leaving his home around 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 16. His family reported him missing to the Avon Police Department in the evening of Friday, May 17.

An initial search effort organized by the Avon Police Department took place from May 18 through 20 on the Eagle River between Sun Ridge Apartments in Avon and Edwards and in Harry A. Nottingham Park. Crews from the Avon Police Department, Vail Mountain Rescue and the Eagle River Fire Protection District searched by foot and raft, and used drones and cadaver dogs, but were unable to find Roblero at that point.

The body was found on Sunday, but the Garfield County Coroner’s Office did not officially confirm it was Roblero until Wednesday, June 5.

The Avon Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances behind Roblero’s death.

“The Avon Police Department is still looking at it from the point of view of a suspicious death,” said Greg Daly, Avon chief of police. “The coroner’s office has not found any evidence of foul play. The family is concerned that somebody might have been involved, and we are researching that.”

Using facial recognition technology, the Avon Police Department has identified Luis Alfaro-Hernandes as a person of interest in the case. “We suspect he may have been with Vicente in the hours leading up to his death and we want to talk to him about any knowledge that he has in relation to Vicente’s movements at that point in time,” Daly said.

“Vicente was much loved by his wife and his children,” Daly said. “We encourage community support for this family.”
