Oil and Gas Development Co. Ltd. (OGDCL) has kicked off production at the Chanda-7 well.
Drilling targeted the hydrocarbon potential of the Wargal, Kingriali, and Datta formations. The well reached a depth of 5,492 meters (18,018 feet). The Kingriali and Fatta formations are currently producing 305 barrels per day of oil and 2.5 million cubic feet per day of gas. The company also said it is recovering three metric tons per day of LPG.
The well is located in Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. OGDCL said that since June 2, 2024, the well has been connected to the Chanda plant via a 0.8-mile flow line, and gas is being injected into the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited network.
The well is being developed by OGDCL as operator and a 72 percent stakeholder in the Chanda Development and Production Lease. Other partners in the lease include Government Holding Private Ltd. with a 17.5 percent share and Orient Petroleum Inc. with a 10.5 percent share.
OGDCL said it is continuing to enhance production efficiency and revitalize resource recovery, and has revitalized the Kunnar-8 well.
The well was re-evaluated for the potential of the Lower Goru upper sands and comprehensively re-completed with an electrical submersible pump. This re-completion, coupled with stimulation techniques, has revived production, adding 540 barrels of oil per day to the system, the company said.
Kunnar-8 well is located in the district of Hyderabad, Sindh province, and is being produced through the OGDCL Kunnar oil field. OGDCL owns a 100 percent working interest in the Kunnar mining lease area.
OGDCL said the revitalization of the Kunnar-8 well is a testament to modern recovery techniques in rejuvenating mature wells.
