Discover Airlines boosts Munich ops, adding flights to Orlando, Calgary, Windhoek from 2025, making it a top leisure hub.

Discover Airlines plans to significantly enhance its service offerings at Munich Airport starting next year by incorporating long-distance routes alongside its current short and medium-range services. From March 2025, the airline will station two Airbus A330 aircraft in Munich. Already the leading leisure carrier at the hub, Discover Airlines operates five short-haul planes, providing approximately 70 weekly flights to 23 vacation destinations.

New direct routes to destinations in Florida, Canada, and southern Africa have been announced. Starting 3 March 2025, Discover Airlines will operate three weekly flights (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) from Munich to Orlando. Beginning 1 April, the airline will also provide service to Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, with flights scheduled for Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Additionally, from 12 April, there will be up to five weekly flights (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday) connecting Munich with Calgary in Canada. These routes will operate throughout the year, with Discover Airlines offering the sole direct flights from Munich to these sought-after locations.

“The expansion of our operations in Munich is an important milestone for us,”  explains Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines. “With this step, we are consistently  focusing on our goal of expanding Lufthansa’s offering at the two major German  hubs with versatile, attractive holiday options offering travelers even more choice.  With our three new long-haul destinations we are doing just that as they have never  been accessible by direct flight from Munich before or were last accessible many  years ago. Our increased activities are a clear commitment by the Lufthansa Group  to Munich as location for the air transport industry as well as to the entire region.”

“With the new long-haul leisure routes, Discover Airlines is adding highly attractive  intercontinental destinations to the route portfolio at Munich Airport. The leisure  carrier is one of the largest airlines based at Munich Airport and – as a combination of  tourist and hub carrier – fits perfectly into the Lufthansa Group network,” explains  Jost Lammers, Chairman of the Management Board of Munich Airport.

Munich Airport serves as the secondary hub for Discover Airlines, following Frankfurt. All flights are set to depart from Terminal 2, facilitating easy transitions for travelers from Lufthansa to Discover Airlines. With seven aircraft and approximately 400 crew members based in Munich, and nearly 30 vacation destinations listed in its schedule, Discover Airlines aims to reinforce its status as the largest leisure airline at the hub in the upcoming year.

This summer, the airline is offering an extensive range of flights on short to medium-haul routes, from the Canary Islands to various Mediterranean spots, including Bodrum in Turkey. The summer schedule also features new direct destinations like Marrakesh, the Greek island of Samos, and Varna in Bulgaria. Discover Airlines flies most frequently to Ibiza, Mallorca, and Crete. Greek destinations are particularly abundant, with eleven locations and about 30 weekly flights making the options more varied than ever. A new addition to the Lufthansa Group’s offerings is the Greek island of Kefalonia. Towards the end of summer, flights to Hurghada in Egypt and Funchal on Madeira will also be available.

Flights are currently open for booking through discover-airlines.com, lufthansa.com, and all German travel operators and agencies.
