A Menomonie, Wis., Fire/Rescue ambulance en route to Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater last week with a patient was twice struck by paintballs.
Menomonie officials called the incident, which occurred around 6 p.m. on May 27, “a purposeful and dangerous act aimed at an ambulance actively engaged in patient transport.”
No one was injured, and the paint could be washed off the vehicle’s rear doors, officials said.
The ambulance’s route from Mayo Clinic Health System — Red Cedar in Menomonie to Lakeview included Stout Road to North Broadway to westbound Interstate 94 to Minnesota Highway 95.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Menomonie Fire Department at 715-232-2414.
“Such actions not only endanger the lives of patients and medical staff but also impede critical medical services,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “We urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist in ensuring the safety of our emergency medical service personnel and the patients they transport.”
