A woman died Monday after another woman allegedly stolen the vehicle she was in at Washington Hospital Center and careened through downtown Washington, crashing into a concrete barrier outside of the D.C. U.S. attorney’s office, police said.

D.C. police Assistant Chief Darnell Robinson said officers arrested a woman who was trying to flee the scene of the crash at the corner of 6th and D streets NW. He did not identify the woman who allegedly stole the vehicle or the victim at a news conference.

Robinson said the victim was in the front seat when a driver left the hospital and got into the vehicle and started speeding into downtown before ultimately losing control.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
