As the official start of summer approaches later this month, expect warmer weather this week and some excessive heat warnings issued in desert areas.
Wednesday, June 5 is set to be the hottest day this week, with temperatures in the upper 80s in southern portions of the Inland Empire, including Temecula and Murrieta. Areas near San Bernardino and Ontario will range in the mid 90s, which will continue into Thursday and Friday before dropping off by the weekend, National Weather Service meteorologist Elizabeth Adams said.
Orange County will be shielded from some of the hotter weather due to marine layered clouds in the area, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Downtown Los Angeles will see similar temperatures, with warmer weather in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valley and highs in the mid to upper 80s and 90s, National Weather Service meteorologist Carol Smith said.
An excessive heat warning has been issued for the San Gorgonio pass near Banning, portions of Antelope Valley including Palmdale, and the High Desert communities of Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley, and Lucerne Valley from Wednesday to Friday evening.
In the Coachella Valley, an excessive heat watch also has been issued from Thursday afternoon to Friday, when high temperatures could range between 110 to 114 each day, Adams said.
