A 14-year-old boy was arrested on gun charges in Dorchester over the weekend, while Boston Police also nabbed a suspect following a ShotSpotter report in Roxbury.
Cops on Saturday evening were monitoring an event at Harambee Park when they reportedly saw a boy clenching a fanny pack underneath his left arm.
As cops approached the boy, he tried to evade officers and walk into a crowd, police said. Officers lost sight of him, but then saw him sitting on a ledge with a group.
The officers approached the boy a second time, and reportedly saw him clenching the fanny pack tighter to his body. The cops then asked him to stand up for a pat frisk, and they found a gun.
The firearm was a Smith and Wesson with one round in the chamber and 12 rounds in the magazine. The firearm’s serial number was also removed.
The 14-year-old boy was placed under arrest and charged with: delinquent to wit, unlawful possession of a firearm; delinquent to wit, unlawful possession of ammunition; delinquent to wit, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device; and defacement of a firearm serial number. He’s expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
Meanwhile, Boston Police busted a 33-year-old suspect in connection with a Roxbury shooting incident. Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made a warrant arrest of Boston man Keon Baker, in the area of 3 Monadnock St.
Baker was wanted following a ShotSpotter alert near 725 Dudley St., on the night of May 23. Police found two spent shell casings and processed the scene after that shooting, launching an investigation.
ShotSpotter, a gunfire data system used by BPD, has been at the center of a City Council debate over whether the city should sign a new contract with the tech company.
BPD after the recent ShotSpotter alert found video of the shooting — allegedly showing the suspect crossing the street and eyeing a vehicle. As the black sedan makes a left-hand turn at the intersection, Baker allegedly fires shots at the vehicle.
The Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC) then disseminated flyers of the suspect, and Boston police officers identified him.
At the time of Baker’s arrest, he was wanted on warrants out of Dorchester District Court for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Detectives then got a search warrant for 3 Monadnock St., which was executed on Saturday. During the search, detectives seized three firearms and ammunition from the dwelling.
