Mother awarded $3 million 6 years after daughter dies in Fayetteville drunk driving crash
A Cumberland County jury has awarded the mother of a 10-year-old killed by a drunk driver $3 million.
The accident happened in 2018 at the intersection of Country Club Drive and Ramsey Street in Fayetteville.
The child's mother told WRAL News all the money in the world isn't bringing her daughter back.
This was the scene in June of 2018 of the horrific crash the killed 10-year-old Love Ingram. Her mother says she was turning onto Country Club Drive when she was hit by Christopher Bell who ran the red light and slammed into her vehicle.
"While I was in the mist of turning, I just remember a loud explosion," said mother Laverne Baxter. "I was knocked out and when I came back, I came back to a gasp trying to get air for myself. Then, trying to get my daughter to wake up."
Her daughter died at the scene. Evidence presented during the recent 6-day trial show Bell at Last Call bar the night of fatal accident. Video showed him at the bar ordering and drinking seven Red Bull and vodkas in less than an hour.
We've reached out to the management for comment, but have not heard back from them.
WRAL News asked attorney Allen Rodgers if will there be an appeal. He said he's not sure, but he's ready to go back to court if there is.
The owner of the Last Call bar and Christopher Bell were sued and are liable for paying the settlement. Bell is serving a 17-year sentence after being convicted of second-degree murder.
