Ardbeg celebrates its innovative ‘Spectacular’ whisky in Mumbai, a first-ever port cask aged malt for peat lovers.

LVMH’s renowned Islay malt whisky brand, Ardbeg, is toasting to the peat aficionados in India with the exciting introduction of Ardbeg Spectacular – the distillery’s premiere edition aged in port casks. This innovative, limited edition bursts with unprecedented flavors unique to Ardbeg. The launch was celebrated with the inaugural global travel retail Ardbeg Day event at Mumbai’s Ospree Duty Free on May 31, 2024.

Traditionally celebrated on the last Saturday of Islay’s Festival of Music and Malt (Fèis Ìle), Ardbeg Day stands as a worldwide homage to the essence of Ardbeg. This year, the event was especially memorable with the debut of Ardbeg Spectacular, Ardbeg’s latest unique creation. Matured entirely in port casks, this whisky introduces a dynamic richness and vibrant hue to the classic Ardbeg profile. Its palate dances with dark chocolate, interspersed with mint, while scents of candied fruit, incense candles, and smoked pecans add a dazzling complexity. This year’s release, known for its smoky harmony and exceptional quirkiness, is truly named Spectacular for its thrilling flavor rollercoaster.

Drawing from the whisky’s complex and shadowy flavors, reminiscent of a circus act, Ardbeg invited enthusiasts to its ‘Dark Circus’ theme on Ardbeg Day. Throughout June, visitors at Mumbai International Airport will experience this unconventional, smoky circus atmosphere with captivating activities, whimsical games, and a plethora of peat-rich pleasures. The Ospree Duty Free celebration promises a memorable peat-filled journey for travelers, including a chance for one fortunate visitor to explore the Ardbeg Distillery in Scotland.

Moet Hennessy India’s Marketing Director, Smriti Sekhsaria, expressed excitement about hosting the first-ever Ardbeg Day Travel Retail event in Mumbai, stating the brand’s pleasure in offering Indian fans this exquisite taste adventure. She anticipates welcoming travelers to their Dark Circus throughout June, promising an exhilarating exploration of Ardbeg’s dramatic essence.

Ardbeg’s Master Blender, Gillian Macdonald, remarked on the spirit’s spectacular nature, ideal for Ardbeg Day. The combination of aging in bourbon and port casks results in an array of unique flavors, including mint chocolate, incense, lavender, and smoked nuts, complemented by bold notes of salted caramel and tar. She described it as a whisky spectacle not to be missed.
