The Singapore National Coffee Championship returns from June 26-28, 2024, at SCTA, Sands Expo, featuring four new prestigious contests in barista excellence.

The forthcoming Singapore National Coffee Championship (SNCC) is set to make a splash from June 26-28, 2024, as part of the Specialty Coffee & Tea Asia (SCTA) event at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre Singapore (Halls D, E, and F). This year, SCTA integrates with the debut of SIGEP Asia, marking the first Asian rendition of the globally renowned Italian trade show SIGEP, which is celebrated for spotlighting artisan gelato, pastry, bakery, and coffee industries. This event anticipates attracting up to 10,000 industry visitors and buyers, along with more than 250 exhibitors and brands from 20 different countries and regions.

Hosted by IEG Asia, SIGEP Asia will concurrently run with the 5th installment of Restaurant Asia, jointly organized with the Restaurant Association of Singapore (RAS), and will share the venue with IEG Asia’s newly added lineup of food and beverage (F&B) trade expos, including Specialty Food & Drinks Asia (SFDA), Specialty Coffee & Tea Asia (SCTA), and Food2Go.

The SNCC serves as the premier competition under the auspices of the Singapore Coffee Association. It is designed to enhance the stature of baristas, advocate for excellence in coffee making, and motivate local baristas to elevate their skills. With the backing of SIGEP Asia and SCTA for this SNCC edition, attendees—including competitors, fans, and coffee aficionados—will dive deep into every facet of coffee production, from bean sourcing to brewing, while engaging in the vibrant coffee competition landscape.

“Coffee competitions like the Singapore National Coffee Championship are incredibly important as they push the boundaries of coffee excellence and inspire a new generation of passionate baristas. This aligns perfectly with SIGEP’s mission of creating the ‘dolce experience’ and celebrating the artistry behind the beverages we love. We’re thrilled to partner with the Singapore Coffee Association, a stalwart of Singapore’s coffee industry since the 1950s, at the inaugural edition of SIGEP Asia and showcase Singapore’s vibrant coffee scene to the world,” said Ilaria Cicero, Chief Executive Officer of IEG Asia and Organiser of the events

This year’s Singapore National Coffee Championship (SNCC) features four prestigious contests with an anticipated participation of 60 competitors.

Among these, the Singapore National Barista Championship, sponsored by Santino, will gather the nation’s elite baristas. Competitors will be evaluated on taste, presentation, and technical prowess. The winner of this championship will have the honor of representing Singapore at the World Barista Championship 2025.

The Singapore National Coffee Championship (SNCC) hosts four distinguished competitions this season, engaging 60 participants in total.

The Singapore National Brewers Cup, sponsored by TIMEMORE, highlights excellence in hand-brewed filtered coffee. Champions of this competition aim to elevate the craft of manual coffee brewing and service. The winner will advance to represent Singapore at the World Brewers Cup 2025.

In the realm of creative coffee presentation, the Singapore National Latte Art Championship celebrates the artistry of milk foam designs on lattes. Competitors vie to create the most visually stunning designs, with the top artist set to represent Singapore at the World Latte Art Championships 2025.

The Singapore Cup Tasters Championship tests the sensory skills of professional coffee cuppers, who must quickly and accurately discern taste differences in specialty coffees. The champion from this contest will go on to represent Singapore at the World Cup Tasters Championships 2025.

Beyond competition, the SNCC acts as a launchpad for F&B excellence and entrepreneurship. Many past participants have achieved notable success both locally and internationally. For instance, Jervis Tan, the 2023 Singapore Latte Art Champion and owner of Oaks Coffee Co., secured a commendable 6th place at the World Latte Art Championship 2023 in Taipei. Jervis is a five-time Singapore Latte Art Champion and a two-time World Latte Art Championship finalist, exemplifying the career heights SNCC participants can reach.

“We’re thrilled to be hosting the prestigious Singapore National Coffee Championships at SIGEP Asia this year, under the Speciality Coffee & Tea Asia series. This move to a much larger platform reflects the growing importance and vibrancy of Singapore’s coffee scene. SIGEP Asia offers the perfect stage for talented baristas to showcase their skills, and we welcome enthusiasts and industry leaders alike to join us on this journey to witness the incredible talent and creativity within the coffee industry,” said Victor Mah, President of the Singapore Coffee Association.

The Singapore National Coffee Championship (SNCC) benefits from the robust support of numerous leading sponsors, setting a strong foundation for the event’s success. Santino serves as the principal sponsor for the Singapore National Barista Championship, while TIMEMORE takes on a similar role for the Singapore National Brewers Cup. Additional sponsors enriching this event include Bettr Barista, Victoria Arduino (distributed by Santino), F&N Foods, Vitasoy, DaVinci Gourmet, Starbucks, Bero Coffee Singapore, GFS Innovation, Claytan® Fine China (Tableware), Hario, BÜCHI, BUNN, and Scotsman Industries.

The debut of SIGEP Asia at the event stands as a pivotal moment for the F&B and Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering (Ho.Re.Ca.) sectors. It aims to consolidate industry trends and cultivate valuable business relationships by gathering leading figures from Europe and Asia. The event will feature an array of activities including the latest F&B products and foodservice technologies, alongside the RAS Leadership Symposium, and a variety of seminars, masterclasses, and tasting sessions, providing ample opportunities for industry engagement and learning.

Visitors can anticipate an impressive array of exhibitors and brands from 30 countries, including Australia, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Japan, among others. Notable participants include Boncafé International, Dasher, Evoca, Glyph Supply Co, Huggs Coffee, MHW-3Bomber, The Coffee Folks, and Zero Hero, alongside many others. This diverse lineup promises a rich and varied experience, showcasing a wide range of products and innovations in the coffee industry.
