Car hits tree, 19-year-old driver killed in Apex

A 19-year-old was killed in a crash early Monday in Apex.

The crash was reported before 3 a.m. on Green Level Church Road near Hickory Mountain Road, just north of the Jenks Road intersection.

The State Highway Patrol confirmed Murillo Rivera, 19, from Morrisville, died in the single-car crash.

Officials said the car was speeding when it veered off to the right of the road and slammed into a tree, killing the driver.

The area was taped off with crime scene tape.
