Fencing removed from Polk Place on UNC campus
Fencing was removed from Polk Place on UNC Chapel Hill's campus about a month after it was put up due to pro-Palestinian protests.
The school says it was installed to "preserve the landscape and deter protesters from engaging in dangerous behavior."
UNC says Polk Place was damaged by a pro-Palestinian encampment, debris and the removal of an American flag.
It is not clear why the university decided to take down the temporary fencing now.
Six pro-Palestinian protesters who were arrested on UNC's campus made their first court appearance on Thursday. Their cases were continued to July 30.
