A North Carolina couple that was found dead following an issued Ashanti Alert died from gunshot wounds, according to the Davie County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said evidence indicated that "Greg Gobble shot Cynthia Gobble and then shot himself." Deputies said the weapon was located at the scene.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office first issued an Ashanti Alert on Thursday for the two. The Gobbles were found dead on Friday shortly after 11 a.m. in a wooded area, just inside Iredell County off Sheffield Road.

Deputies said the Ford truck listed in the alert was also located at the scene.

On Thursday around 10 p.m. the Davie County Sheriff's Office said they were dispatched to a welfare check on Cynthia Gobble after family members were not able to contact her. The two were last seen in the area of Country Lane, Campbell Road, and Highway 601 in Mocksville, according to the Davie County Sheriff's Office.

It was reported that there was an ongoing separation and divorce case between Cynthia and her husband Greg Gobble. Officers were able to confirm that Cynthia was not at Country Lane in Mocksville, however, they did locate evidence that indicated she may not have left on her own.

Both deputies and family members said they checked other locations that either of the Gobbles might be at and made attempts to locate them. Officers were also unable to locate Greg Gobble's white Ford Truck after determining he drove the truck earlier that day. That's when they were both entered as missing, and the Ashanti Alert went out for them and the vehicle.

On Friday the Iredell County Sheriff's Office received a call of two bodies being located just over the county line off Sheffield Road. Iredell County notified the Davie County Sheriff's Office, and both agencies determined that the bodies were those of Cynthia and Greg Gobble.

Davie County sheriff's units said they are continuing to process the scene on Country Lane and the Iredell County Sheriff's Office assisted by processing the scene where the Gobble's remains were located.

What is an Ashanti Alert?

An Ashanti Alert is for adults older than 17 (unlike an Amber Alert). According to the N.C. Center for Missing Persons, the Ashanti Alert establishes a voluntary nationwide communication network to aid in the search and recovery of missing persons between the ages of 18 and 64.

The Ashanti Alert Act was passed in 2018. It was named in honor of Ashanti Billie, who was abducted and killed in 2017.
