D.C. police are investigating a Saturday night shooting that left a 15-year-old boy dead.

Police responded about 10:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of 18th Street in Northeast Washington, officials said. They found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound, who was later taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The boy was identified Sunday as 15-year-old Victor Bolden.

The shooting happened as D.C. continues to deal with youth violence, a crisis that the city’s mayor deemed last year to be a public emergency. Nineteen children and teens under the age of 18 were killed in 2023, the deadliest year in the city in more than two decades.

Several more children have been killed this year, including a 3-year-old, two 14-year-olds, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds.
