Being bombarded by spam text messages is something we're all too familiar with. It's like a shared life experience for all of us, no matter what country we're in or even what device we're using. It affects non-Android users just as much.

Smartphone manufacturers continue to team up with other services provides to offer improved spam text message filtering on their phones. Samsung's latest collaboration on this will see its Galaxy phones become much better at filtering spammy messages in one of its most important countries.

South Korea gets enhanced spam message filtering on Galaxy phones

A new spam message filtering service will be introduced on Samsung smartphones in the second half of this year for users in its home country of South Korea. It comes courtesy of the the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).

KISA will be providing spam verification data to Samsung. The company will use this data to provide an improved spam filtering feature to its Galaxy smartphone users. This feature isn't going to be enabled by default, so it's going to be up to the users if they want to active the enhanced text message filtering service.

Messages that are deemed to be malicious will be blocked automatically. Users will have the capability to manually check and recover blocked messages, in case the feature mistakenly marks a message as spam.

This is the result of a collaboration that was announced between Samsung and KISA back in March this year. Pilot tests will be conducted until July before the feature is rolled out to all users in the second half of this year. Since this data is limited to South Korea only, it won't do much for users elsewhere, but Samsung has teamed up with other service providers in different countries to improve spam text and call detection on Galaxy phones.
