After SAT site found closed, parents concerned ACT site at St. Augustine's won't be open either
Parents around Wake County are growing concerned with St. Augustine's after an SAT was never held at the school on Saturday.
Many parents are now concerned the school will not have testing for the ACT on Saturday, June 8, or in July.
"We were concerned when we signed up," Jon Cancro, whose son is expected to take the test at the university, said. "Then we saw the story yesterday that something happened for the SAT. I'm concerned that could happen on the July test also."
On Saturday, several parents expressed frustration after arriving at Saint Augustine's University for their child's SAT, only to find the testing center closed.
Elizabeth Will and her husband, Stefan Will, said their 17-year-old daughter was scheduled to take the SAT at the campus that morning.
Upon arrival, they, along with several other families, found no signs directing them to the testing center.
They parked in a side lot and approached a security guard, who promised to investigate.
About 30 minutes later, they received some startling news.
"The security guard lady walked up to everyone and said it's canceled and kinda changed the story and said they had no idea it was happening that the test was supposed to be happening and we should probably just go home," Stefan Will said.
Both Elizabeth Will and Stefan Will said their daughter received an email from the College Board later this morning that reads, in part, "We're investigating why your test center was not open and whether your test center can conduct a makeup test. We're very sorry for any inconvenience."
"They would have had to log in for everyone and check their devices," Elizabeth Will, mother of a student who tried to take the SAT at Saint Augustine's said. "There are also students who require special accommodations, and not knowing anything about this is pretty astonishing."
WRAL News asked the College Board about the issue Saturday and received the following statement:
"The June SAT administration was scheduled at Saint Augustine's College today. We are looking into what happened and have notified students that we will be in contact about the next steps next week."
As for the ACT, WRAL News has reached out to ACT administrators about the scheduled tests and is waiting to hear back.
Cancro said he has been looking for alternatives for his son if there is no testing site at St. Augustine's.
"We saw one in Johnson County and Siler City," he said. "It would be a good hike to get out there. I have to see if they will let us get out there ... I sent them a note, [but] I haven't heard back. I'm hoping to get a response."
WRAL News also contacted Saint Augustine's for comment, but the university did not respond.
