Azores Airlines Launches New Direct Flights from North America to Europe in June

Azores Airlines is set to launch several new direct flights starting in June. These include routes from North America to Porto and Funchal, from Ponta Delgada to the Algarve (Faro), and from Ponta Delgada to Milan. The new services commence on June 1st with direct flights between Toronto and Funchal, followed by flights between New York and Porto, and between Ponta Delgada and Faro. On June 4th, direct flights will begin from Porto to Boston and from Boston to Funchal. The next day, the airline will start flights between Ponta Delgada and Milan, and on June 7th, direct flights between Toronto and Porto will begin. Additionally, the airline will resume connections between Ponta Delgada and London with two weekly flights.

These new routes are the result of a collaborative effort involving the airline, national and regional tourism entities, promotion and travel agents, and local representatives. This collaboration aims to meet the high demand projected for summer 2024, which is expected to surpass the demand recorded in 2023. Alongside these new routes, Azores Airlines is increasing its regular flights by approximately 26% for the summer of 2024 compared to last year’s IATA summer season.

Graça Silva, Director of Sales, Marketing and Communication, stated that “The new bets are the result of concerted efforts with several agents and business partners. It provides more options for passengers who want to reach the Azores and more opportunities or those who wish to travel between Europe and North America. These investments will consolidate the sustained growth trajectory seen at the airline in recent years.”

In addition to direct flights, Azores Airlines offers connectivity between North American and European destinations with options for a brief stopover in the Azores or a longer stay of up to seven days through the Azores Stopover program. This program allows passengers to explore the Azores before continuing to their final destination. Azores Airlines provides the most extensive services to the Azores, connecting the archipelago to North America, Europe, Mainland Portugal, the Madeira Archipelago, and Cape Verde.

According to the latest data from the Azores Tourism Observatory, Azores Airlines was the top choice for passengers traveling to the Azores during the high season of 2023. The airline was recently recognized as “Europe’s Leading Airline to North America 2024.” Additionally, Azores Airlines’ operations are complemented by SATA Air Açores, which connects the nine islands of the Azores Archipelago.
