Given the unpredictable UK weather, it’s no surprise that Brits are eyeing overseas destinations for their summer vacations. However, navigating airport security, particularly with the latest travel regulations, can be daunting.

A recent survey revealed that a staggering 83 percent of British travelers are unaware of a significant new travel rule, highlighting the importance of checking ahead before packing.

Effective from June 1st, passengers can now carry up to two liters of liquid in their hand luggage, alongside bringing laptops onboard. Yet, not all airports will implement these changes simultaneously.

Major hubs like Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester have announced delays in adopting the new regulations. Conversely, smaller airports such as Teesside, London City, Birmingham, and Newcastle are ready to enforce the rules from day one, thanks to their updated screening technology.

This disparity among airports has left flyers feeling uncertain, as highlighted by an AirAdvisor survey showing that 83 percent of respondents lacked clarity on liquid regulations during the summer.

It’s essential to note that these new rules pertain exclusively to UK airports; travelers must adhere to different regulations when flying to other countries, even on return trips to the UK.

Previously, passengers were restricted to carrying liquids of under 100ml in a 20cm x 20cm bag. Now, the expanded limits require travelers to stay informed about the specific rules at their chosen airport.

While only a few airports are implementing the new rule on June 1st, delayed adoption by major hubs like Gatwick, Heathrow, and Manchester is expected in early 2025. The AirAdvisor survey also highlighted that 97 percent of respondents were unaware of which airports would phase out the 100ml rule for the summer.
