Exciting news for the Pacific Northwest! Lufthansa has launched a non-stop flight service between Seattle and Munich using the eco-friendly Airbus A350-900. This new route adds to the existing daily flights from Seattle to Frankfurt.
The inaugural flight LH488 takes off from Munich (MUC) at 3:35pm and arrives at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) at 4:59pm. The return flight, LH489, leaves Seattle at 6:50pm and lands in Munich at 1:45pm the next day, with all times local. This SEA-MUC route will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
“Adding direct access to Munich, Lufthansa’s Bavarian hub alongside Frankfurt, is a welcome development for our customers throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as the United States at large,” said Dirk Janzen, Vice President Passenger Sales, The Americas, Lufthansa Group Airlines. “The United States is Lufthansa Group’s most important market outside of the home markets, and so this new nonstop service between Munich and Seattle marks a significant step forward in connecting travelers and fostering economic ties between Germany and the U.S. west coast.”
The Airbus A350-900 exemplifies Lufthansa’s commitment to comfort and environmental responsibility. It features enhanced fuel efficiency and a contemporary cabin design for a more comfortable and enjoyable transatlantic journey. Travelers can select from various cabin classes, including Business, Premium Economy, and Economy. Lufthansa’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of fuel-efficient planes like the A350-900 and its investments in sustainable aviation fuels.
Enhanced Global Connectivity
Travelers can now enjoy an enhanced and streamlined journey between Seattle and Munich, serving as a prime gateway to Germany, the rest of Europe, and global destinations. This development enhances Lufthansa Airlines’ expanding network in North America, including the introduction of new direct flights this summer from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Frankfurt (FRA). Additionally, Lufthansa is increasing the capacity on the route from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Munich by deploying the A380 aircraft.
As part of the prestigious Lufthansa Group—one of the top aviation consortia globally—Lufthansa Airlines plays a significant role in the group’s expansion in North America this summer. The group includes notable members like SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and Discover, all enhancing their market presence across the continent. This season, SWISS commenced new direct services from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Zurich. Furthermore, Austrian Airlines is set to initiate flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and will also deploy the modern 787-9 aircraft on its popular New York JFK – Vienna route. These collective efforts underscore the Lufthansa Group’s commitment to providing travelers with extensive and convenient connectivity options throughout North America and Europe, with the new Seattle-Munich route bolstering Lufthansa Group’s standing as a premier transatlantic airline.
