The European Union's renewable energy financing mechanism (RENEWFM) has awarded EUR27.5 million ($30.1 million) to seven solar power projects in Finland.
According to a press release by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), initially, eight projects were awarded funding to build their photovoltaic infrastructure in Finland. Seven of the eight projects have made it through to signing grant agreements with CINEA. These seven projects have a combined capacity of 212.99 megawatts-peak (MWp).
The seven projects are Loukkaanaro Solar Park, Niittyneva Solar Park, Ohrasuo Solar Park, Koirivaara Solar Park, Honkisaarenneva PV Solar Park, Kuortane Solar, and Poytya Solar.
The Loukkaanaro Solar Park (20 MWp) is located in Utajärvi. This project will be the largest solar farm in northern Finland upon completion in 2025. It has been allotted EUR 2.3 million ($2.5 million) from RENEWFM.
Niittyneva Solar Park (eight MWp) is expected to begin production in February 2025 with a capacity of 7,240 MW hours annually. The project has been granted EUR 837,000 ($866,700).
Ohrasuo Solar Park (7.8 MWp) is located in eastern Finland, and the facility is scheduled to enter operation by April 2025 with a yearly production of 7.2 gigawatt hours (GWh). The project has secured EUR 990,000 ($1.07 million) from the CINEA.
CINEA has awarded EUR 5.2 million ($5.6 million) to the Koirivaara Solar Park (30 MWp), situated in North Karelia. The agency said that the project is expected to generate 27.2 GWh per year, with the completion date set for December 2025.
Honkisaarenneva PV Solar Park (33 MWp) has been awarded EUR 4.1 million ($4.4 million), while the 67.6 GWh Kuortane Solar project in Leppälänkylä has been awarded EUR 9.9 million ($10.7 million). The Poytya Solar (40.16 MWp) in southwest Finland has been awarded EUR 4 million ($4.3 million), according to CINEA.
