Zebulon woman charged with misdemeanor child abuse

A Zebulon woman is in jail Thursday facing serious charges of child abuse.

Shirley Richardson, 62, has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse following an incident earlier this month at Lakeland Elementary School.

The arrest follows an investigation into an incident at the school, where Richardson was working when the alleged abuse occurred. The charges stem from actions that resulted in physical injury to a student.

WRAL has contacted Wake County Schools to ask about Richardson's employment status, but has not yet received a response.
