Aces sign former All-Star, back to full roster

The Aces’ roster is back to 12 players.

The back-to-back champions have signed guard Tiffany Hayes, the team announced Friday morning.

This comes after the 5-10 guard announced her retirement following the 2023 season with the Connecticut Sun.

Hayes, a 2017 All-Star, spent her first 10 years in the WNBA with the Atlanta Dream, the team the Aces will face on the road Friday night.

She was Atlanta’s 14th overall draft pick out of the University of Connecticut in 2012. The two-time NCAA champion was traded to the Sun in February 2023.

“Joining the Aces will be very exciting for me,” Hayes said in team’s news release. “I’m just grateful that they are willing to work with me as I am diving head first into a new era in my life. It will be nice to experience the west coast and this organization as I join them on the road to another winning season. I have no doubts that there is something special brewing, and I’m just another great ingredient being added to the mix. Let’s go Aces!”

Down to nine players after waiving rookie guard Dyaisha Fair, Aces general manager Natalie Williams told the Review-Journal the team wasn’t necessarily looking for a point guard, just someone experienced. Hayes has plenty of history in the league.

“Tiffany is a fiery competitor with a winner’s mentality,” Williams’ Friday statement read. “A savvy veteran who will be a great addition to our team.”

In what was thought to be her final season, Hayes recorded averages of 12.1 points, three rebounds and 2.6 assists per game over appearances in all 40 regular season games.

Over her 11-year career, she holds averages of 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
