Sen. Mitch McConnell was joined by Gov. Andy Beshear and other state leaders on Thursday to discuss how federal funding is providing much-needed support for the Kentucky National Guard.McConnell says he’s advocated and helped secure millions of dollars for the Kentucky National Guard during the 2024 fiscal year. “It gives our friends the tools to defend themselves and the resources to degrade the military powers of Russia, Iran and China,” McConnell said. “Funding preparedness is a lot cheaper than funding the war.”A total of $16 million is for a vehicle maintenance facility in Burlington, $7 million for a training range in Greenville, and another $2 million for a state administrative building in Frankfort.Beshear says the entire state benefits when investments are made into the Kentucky National Guard. “I remember back to July of 2022 when I believe our National Guard, combined with others, had the most effective immediate response to a natural disaster when the floodwater hit. You and other first responders saved more than 1400 Kentuckians in a 48-hour period,” Beshear said.Leaders say these resources go a long way toward strengthening the Kentucky National Guard and protecting the country.
