Turning 9 is a big deal for any kid, and for Michigan student Marco Hagood, it was a day filled with surprises, fun, and a whole lot of joy. What made Hagood’s birthday party stand out from the rest? Well, he chose an unconventional venue that turned out to be a hit among his friends and family: Bob’s Discount Furniture store.
Marco, whose parents are Jim and Nina Hagood, attends St. Pius Catholic School in Southgate. On April 29, he celebrated his birthday with brothers Luke and Nico and five other friends.
When asked what he liked so much about Bob’s, Marco said. “The first time I went there, there were cookies and ice cream in the back, and I had fun there. It was a cool place.”
Interestingly, the idea of hosting his birthday party at Bob’s was not a suggestion from his parents or friends—it was entirely Marco’s brainchild. Nina shared the origin of this unique idea.
“We bought a couch there about two years ago. The boys went with us when we picked it out. They thought it was a fun store to be in. Then they saw the café they had in the back with free ice cream, cookies, and candy, and they were sold,” she said.
The birthday festivities began with a delicious dinner at a local Red Robin restaurant, where Marco and his friends indulged in their favorite meals. But the real surprise awaited them at Bob’s. As they walked through the doors of the furniture store, they were greeted with smiles and warmth from the staff. Upon hearing about Marco’s birthday celebration, the store manager ensured everything was perfectly set up for the occasion.
Marco’s mom also organized a scavenger hunt among the furniture displays.
“My mom made a scavenger hunt for all of us. She gave us photos of different furniture we had to find. I really liked the hunt,” Marco said.
But the surprises didn’t end there. The staff at the Taylor location of Bob’s Discount Furniture had a plan to make Marco’s day even more special. They presented him with a signed card and a bundle of gifts, including a new shirt and a basketball.
Reflecting on the experience, Nina said, ” Bob’s staff has been incredible. They are so nice and accommodating. They were excited about their first birthday party at Bob’s. The warmth and hospitality extended by the staff made Marco’s birthday celebration truly unforgettable.”
