A car smashed into a business in Portland on Wednesday, and the owner of it says he's just thankful to be alive.“It was a little bit scary because there was a lot of noise. Then, the building started falling off. We thought the whole building was going to be on the floor,” said Moe Awad. Video shows the moments after a car crashed into this building on 26th and Market Street in the Portland neighborhood. In a cloud of dust the car seemingly disappears behind the bricks as the building continues to crumble around it. Remnants of the chaotic scene are still evident Thursday afternoon as witnesses recount what happened. “The lady was flying through there and then she did not slow down and then as soon as she hit the building it was a big noise,” said Awad. Police said the driver of the car lost control and slammed into the building that housed a Boost Mobile. The store owner says the driver barely missed him and his customers.“I would say it go past that door, I would say about two feet from us, from the counter, and the crazy part is it was a baby right next to her mother, and almost it was about to get hit by the car,” said Muhammed Alsaji. This incident is just another example of why business owners on this block say this isn’t the safest street. They said they’ve witnessed people get hit by cars and multiple accidents,”“Since the beginning of this year, I will say about 15. Yep, 15 accidents, something like that,” said Awad. But what he and others witnessed Wednesday afternoon was unlike what they had ever seen before. Which is why many on this block woke up with gratitude, thankful the situation wasn't worse. “And most important is that we lived again because of that. That could have been the end for us pretty much because it was really bad,” said Alsaji.
