    What's the story

Google has introduced the Fitbit Ace LTE, a new wearable device aimed at encouraging healthy habits among children aged seven and above. The device, powered by Wear OS, merges gaming with fitness tracking to make exercise fun. Additionally, it functions as a communication and real-time location tool between parents and children. The Fitbit Ace LTE is available for pre-order at $229.95 on the Google Store and Amazon with general availability starting June 5.

    Performance

The watch offers 16 hours of battery backup

The Fitbit Ace LTE features a rounded square OLED display (333ppi) protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and encased in stainless steel and recycled plastic. Buyers also get a raised plastic bumper for additional screen protection. The watch supports always-on display feature that can be enabled in the Settings app. In terms of battery life, it delivers up to 16 hours of usage with gaming and standalone LTE connectivity factored in.

    Processing

    Subscription and hardware details

The Fitbit Ace LTE requires a monthly or annual Fitbit Ace Pass subscription for cellular connectivity and access to the Fitbit Arcade. The device shares many specifications with the Pixel Watch 2, including Snapdragon W5/Qualcomm 5100, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It also boasts 5ATM water resistance and uses a circular pin-based charger with fast charging support. Connectivity options include 4G LTE via Google Fi/T-Mobile partnership, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and GPS/GNSS.

    Controls

    Tracking and parental controls

The Fitbit Ace LTE packs a simplified version of optical heart rate sensor on the Pixel Watch 2. The device also includes smartwatch features like messaging, calling, alarm clock, and activity stats. Parents can set allowances for their kids using the soon-to-be-introduced Google Wallet tap-to-pay feature. The Fitbit Ace app allows parents to send messages to their kids' watch, view their Move Goal progress for a month, and locate them using real-time location data that gets deleted after 24 hours.
