DEERFIELD — The driver of a tractor-trailer truck was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield with minor injuries on Thursday morning following a crash on Routes 5 and 10 in the area of Wapping Road.
The crash, which occurred at 6:16 a.m., is under investigation and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection remained on scene into the afternoon to remove soil that was impacted by approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel, according to Police Chief John Paciorek Jr.
The 2004 Peterbilt truck was hauling an empty tanker before it went off the road and struck the guardrail in the area of Wapping Road. Northbound traffic on Routes 5 and 10 was detoured around Wapping Road until about 10 a.m., when the truck was removed. Southbound traffic remained detoured while emergency guardrail repairs were made.
Paciorek said no criminal charges will be filed against the male driver, but the crash is under investigation by Officer Mark Wilkins and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section.
The Deerfield Police Department’s response was joined by the Deerfield and South Deerfield fire districts, South County EMS, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, MassDEP and State Police.
