A Johnston County father is facing felony charges after his son brought a backpack with marijuana to Cleveland Elementary School on Wednesday.

Calvin Carter, 33, was arrested at the Clayton campus after his son's backpack was found to have 1.6 pounds of marijuana in it.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, school surveillance cameras allegedly captured Carter walking his son into the school that morning and handing him a backpack.

School administrators later discovered suspected marijuana inside the backpack and immediately contacted the school resource officer (SRO).

Authorities charged Carter with three felonies:

  • Selling marijuana
  • Planning to sell marijuana
  • Selling drugs near a school

He was given a $70,000 secured bond.
