OAKVILLE – Lillian A. (Klemchuk) Vecchi, 88, of Oakville, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Swansea, Mass., on Monday, May 27, 2024, with her family and close friends by her side. She was the beloved wife and faithful companion of Arthur Vecchi for nearly 65 years.

Lillian was born in Waterbury on April 7, 1936, a daughter of the late Markian and Fedora (Widrenska) Klemchuk. She was a graduate of Watertown High and earned her nursing certificate from the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing.

Before her retirement, she worked as a registered nurse for Whitewood Manor, Waterbury Extended Care, and for 11 years at Waterbury Hospital.

She was a dedicated member of the Union Congregational Church in Oakville, having served as a deacon, a trustee, and a member of the Ladies Aide. She also functioned as the church’s event coordinator and sat on several committees over the years.

She was very much a people person, which was evident by her career choice. “Lil,” “Lula,” or “Zena,” as she was known, loved to dance and have fun. She found joy in welcoming friends and family into her life and home. She cared for everyone she met with love and kindness. She was loved and will be missed.

Besides her husband, Arthur, she leaves her daughter, Kristen Vecchi and her husband Paul Shapiro, of Swansea, Mass.; and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her brothers, Alexander W. and Peter Klemchuk, and her sister, Olga Kiefer.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Hanover Hospice of Fall River, Mass., who took such wonderful care of Lula in the days leading up to her passing. Thank you.

Lillian’s funeral service will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church, 167 Buckingham St., Oakville. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. A calling hour will be on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Lillian’s memory to: Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
