Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.26%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Tuesday.

Shares of Exide Industries Ltd.(up 3.15 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(up 1.97 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 0.15 per cent), TVS Motor Company Ltd.(up 0.1 per cent) and Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 0.07 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Bosch Ltd.(down 1.59 per cent), MRF Ltd.(down 1.41 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(down 1.32 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd.(down 1.19 per cent) and Tata Motors Ltd.(down 1.15 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.26 per cent down at 23814.25.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 44.3 points at 22888.15, while the BSE Sensex stood down 220.05 points at 75170.45.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 21 ended in the green, while 29 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, RattanIndia Power, Inox Wind Ltd. and NHPC were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of SMS Lifesciences Ind, Ashima Ltd, Shradha Infraproject, Excel Realty N Infra and IRIS Business Services hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Priti International, Future Supply Chain, Revathi Equipment, Ebixcash World Money and Karda Const hit their fresh 52-week lows.
