San Jose police special operations personnel spent several hours negotiating the homicide suspect’s peaceful surrender

SAN JOSE — Police are investigating the 16th homicide of 2024 after they found a woman dead inside a North 20th Street home Monday evening after a suspect in her killing surrendered after being barricaded inside the residence for several hours.

Police said the suspect emerged from the home in the 300 block of North 20th Street and was taken into custody at 8:38 p.m., according to an X post from San Jose media relations. Officers later located a deceased adult female inside the home, northeast of downtown.

Police said the motive and the circumstances surrounding the event were unknown as of late Monday. The investigation is continuing.

Multiple police units had earlier responded to a call at 6:04 p.m., reporting a possible shooting in the home.

Over the next two hours, special operations personnel arrived and worked to negotiate a peaceful surrender by the suspect. according to an earlier X post.

Police had also described as the area as “very active” and asked the public to stay away as much as possible.
