Fruitful meeting with Stellantis CEO and unions on product allocation in Italian plants until 2030

Turin – WEBWIRE

A second meeting has taken place in Turin on May 27th to present to unions partners concrete perspectives with the allocation of models in the Stellantis Italian factories until 2030 and beyond that will trigger additional production in Italy.

Within this context, the CEO of Stellantis shared with Unions the principle of manufacturing flexibility towards uncertain electrification trends. He officially announced the decision to develop an hybrid version of the Fiat 500 which would be manufactured in the Mirafiori factory, and the allocation of a new hybrid version of the Jeep Compass in Melfi plant.

Those announcements complement the recent ones made for a new generation of battery to make the Iconic Fiat 500e even more appealing to customers and the industrial extension of the Fiat Panda hybrid in Pomigliano. The supply of those new hybrid models will contribute positively to the workload of Termoli plant and Mirafiori e-DCT and transmissions plants for the coming years.

With the success of the announced plan, Stellantis is going to start a process of generational renewal of the workforce, with the hirings of young workers mainly in Mirafiori.

Carlos Tavares recalled the importance of offering affordable and high-Quality cars for Italian customers, which implies working on Stellantis competitiveness together with its suppliers and Italian institutions. Stellantis is already working on the Company’s internal factors, but external ones remain to be addressed, such as energy cost, charging network for BEV and market support tools, as well as activities to encourage conversion and retraining.

He concluded that the shared ambition with Italian Government to reach one million vehicles produced in Italy by 2030, will need a supportive business environment, currently impacted by electrification uncertainties and strong competition with new entrants to the market.
