Football’s round-robin series rewards failure and has diluted the All-Ireland SFC product

Played 20; Won 4; Lost 16. That’s the state of play so far from the provincial and round-robin series for eight of the 16 counties in the All-Ireland football championship which stages the second round of group games next weekend.
If the results of those games run according to the odds, the overall table for Cavan, Clare, Derry, Meath, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tyrone and Westmeath will read as follows on Sunday evening: Played 28; Won 7; Lost 21.
