Sloth gives birth at Harnett Co. animal sanctuary

Workers at an animal sanctuary discovered their sloth had a pup just over a week ago in Harnett County.
According to Animal Edventures Sanctuary in Coats, North Carolina, a keeper at the sanctuary discovered Fawn, one of the sloths in the sanctuary, had a sloth pup.
The sanctuary said they couldn’t believe it and had to see it for themselves.
“We all threw down our tools and went running,” the sanctuary said on Facebook.
The sanctuary said while they thought all three sloths they previously had were female, one of them was male.
"Sloth's 'parts' are internal. You can't see them and we really had no reason on arrival to suspect they had been wrongly assessed," the sanctuary said.
The mother, Fawn had the pup seconds before everyone entered the sloth room.

According to the sanctuary, both the mother and pup are doing well.
The sanctuary said the sloth room will remain open but askws any visitors to keep things quiet and gentle as possible.
