WI register their maiden T20I series sweep over SA: Stats
West Indies completed a historic clean sweep in the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa at home. The Men in Maroon clinched the third and final T20I by eight wickets on Sunday in Jamaica. Notably, this was WI's maiden series sweep over the Proteas side (2 or more matches). Meanwhile, here we decode the key stats from the series.
Brandon King starred in the opener
WI managed 175/8 while batting first in the series opener as the Proteas produced a solid comeback. Skipper Brandon King made a brilliant 79 off 45 balls. In reply, Reeza Hendricks led the chase for SA as he hammered 87 off just 51 deliveries. However, none of his teammates could even touch the 20-run mark as SA were bundled out for 147.
Summary of 2nd and 3rd T20I
Roston Chase's 67 powered WI to 207/7 in the second game. SA managed 191/7 as many of their batters threw away their starts. Gudakesh Motie claimed 3/22. SA posted 163/7 in the third T20I thanks to skipper Rassie van der Dussen (51) and Wiaan Mulder (36). WI (165/2) completed the chase in just 13.5 overs as Johnson Charles made a 26-ball 69.
WI's maiden sweep over SA (T20Is)
As mentioned, West Indies completed their maiden T20I series whitewash over SA. This was overall their second successive T20I series triumph over the Proteas side. Last year, the Caribbean team beat SA 2-1 in the Rainbow Nation. In terms of series head-to-head record in T20Is, WI now lead SA 3-1. One of their series resulted in a draw.
Key performers from the series (Batters)
While King (159) finished as the highest run-getter of the series, Hendricks (127) scored the most for SA. Mayers (102) was the only other batter with 100-plus runs. Charles (192.50) had the highest strike rate in the series though he was dismissed for single digits twice (77 runs). Quinton de Kock, who managed 72 runs, trails Charles in this regard (SR: 172.97).
Key performers from the series (Bowlers)
With eight wickets at an economy of 6.18, Motie finished as the series's highest wicket-taker. Andile Phehlukwayo and Obed McCoy claimed five wickets apiece. They, however, conceded runs at 9.56 and 11.29, respectively. Meanwhile, no other bowler managed even four wickets. Motie's 3/22 in the final game were the best bowling figures in the series.
